"My name is Clarence." says Clarence, holding out his right hand to shake Rector's. With his left hand, he pokes at the dialogue box, trying to see if he can get it to show more detail. It's surely not rude if he's only talking to an NPC at the time.

Brand goes stumbling back once the tree he's trying to move disintegrates, but he shakes it off quickly enough, and extends a hand to the NPC.

"I am Brand - a pleasure to meet you, sir."

Everything feels heavy. I feel like I'm running through syrup or mud. Teiresias grimaces as the group outpaced him in short order. Hope this doesn't cause problems later. He made a small promise to himself to fix this particular function in his own work. A few moments later, he arrived at the group's location, not even having witnessed the destruction of the tree. "Looks like I'm not cut out for sprinting." He says with a smile. Teiresias did not notice the tree getting cut, but he knows an NPC and quest identifier when he sees one. "My friends call me Teiresias. What exactly happened?"

Karie and Clarence see the same thing. The menu pops open, automatically switches to the Book Icon, which is labeled "Journal updates". A blinking line on the choice menu says "Quest Updated:Tutorial". Underneath it, some text. "You saved an unfortunate soul from danger! Now follow him to his home town!"

Rector nods at the different names, and speaks. There is a only BARELY perceptible catch in his voice at moments, clearly the system substituting names in. "
Thank you for your concern, , Kai, , but I am fine. Something knocked over the trees as I was headed to my home, and I ended up trapped. I am lucky people were nearby to help me. "

"I know, you should follow me back to my village. I can treat you to a meal, at the very least, in thanks. Its less than 5 minutes that way. Come on" Without hesitating, Rector turned and began a brisk walk.

OOC:(Basically, another chance to talk or experiment as we move. anyone who just wants the scene to go on just post that youre following)

Karie mumbles something about "protect the idiot levels" and proceeds to follow.

"Ohhhhh!" Kai seems very happy and trots right along behind the NPC. "I wonder if this game makes food tasty? I wonder if it smells good... will it all taste like chicken? Not that I'll mind but... Mmmm... chicken... Whats for dinner Rector!?"

"Indeed!" Clarence closes his menu system and walks along towards the village with the NPC. "Let us see the village. As good a starting place as any, I imagine."

Maya follows along behind all of the rest, looking around her curiously as she goes.

Teiresias listens to the NPC speak, stroking his beard, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. At the remark about a meal, he pauses, then then lowers his arm. "A meal! That should be interesting." He follows the group as they make their way towards the town, moving alongside Kai. At his comment about smells, Teiresias nods his head, and takes in a deep breath through his nose. "If it's like the rest of this world, then I'm sure it'll smell great! Of course, you won't be filling your belly here. You'll have to find a slightly less..." He pauses for a second, and looks across the group as best he can, "Colorful setting." Teiresias chuckles slightly, and lays his free hand on Kai's shoulder, as best he can. "I like the way you think though, lad."

Kai beams up at Teiresias, "Hehe! I'm making friends already! Speaking of..." Kai flips open the menu, searching for an add friend option; if one is found, then everyone in the group is suddenly spammed with an 'Add Friend' request carrying the following message, "This is so awesome! We should all keep in contact even if we don't stay together after this initial group."

Brand keeps pace with the group, hands behind his neck. "A meal sounds pretty neat! I wonder if you get full in the game, or if you can just eat until you're bored of it. I'm kind of wondering how it'll feel to go from full to hungry if you disconnect after eating in-game." There's obviously a big grin on his face.

As the party walks, chatters, and looks over screens, a small hamlet becomes visible on the horizon. Rector looks up with a smile, and points at it. "And over there, we have.......wait-"

A few feet closer and the smoke rising from the houses is visible. At the same time, red cursors pop up in the distance. The system gives a clear alerting chime, and theres an immediate pop up from the journal screen. It seems activating it the first time auto-selected a notification mode. [Defend the Village!: Quest updated!] appears.

Rector lets out a pained sound. "No! The ratlings are attacking my village!" With that, he takes off at a run.

(ooc: Yeah, youre running with him, im not making another post just for you all to say "i run")

Upon reaching the village, flames are everywhere. The buildngs are set up in a general squared pattern, about 3 rows by 4, with larger buildings in the middle. But now, over half of them are burning. People are running in every direction, and there are bodies on the ground already. Rector, running ahead, vanishes into the large building in the center, despite the fire. And running throughout, human sized but not shaped, are hideous creatures. Dressed in rags, carrying sticks, heavy clubs, and in one case, a staff with a skull tied to it, are rat like creatures. They are covered in a coarse, scraggly black fur. Their eyes glow a bright red and their elongated jaws show jagged, crooked teeth. A quick glance suggets their numbers in the 20s. Half of them turn at your entering, and one, a taller one streaked with red paint or blood, lets out a chittering shriek. They charge.

Enemies:
Ratmen x 8 (club carrying, 4 charging, 2 setting fire to buildings, 2 chasing civilians)
Ratthugs x 4 (sharpened stick carrying, all charging)
Ratfolk x 12 (no weapon, 4 charging, 8 spread throughout the village)
RatMaster x 1(paint streaked, with staff of skull. Standing on top of the roof of the two story building in the center of town.)

OOC

All distances are relative, the area of engagement counting the town is about 100' radius. The charging ratbeasts are still 20' away at the furthest.

Combat has no order except that all players are to act before the turn ends. Turn order is at my discretion unless players deliberately coordinate actions, either in in-battle discussion(dont forget you can text each other if REALLY needed) or in referencing others moves in their post. Status of the players will be marked if it changes from healthy/100%. Now get to it!

And Kai is off.

Kai charges at the thickest concentration of the foes, "I'll set them up, you all knock them down!" Kai leaps into the air, spinning one's Halberd around one's small body quite well; Kai comes down hard, slamming the butt of the lance into the ground simultaneously while stomping one's right foot as hard as possible.

Technique Used: [Ground Shock]

A large shockwave blasts outwards, shaking the dust from the ground, one's long red sash fluttering in the air. If all goes well, a large group of the beasts will now be stunned for the others to attack.

As Maya comes running up, she immediately focuses on the Ratmaster. With a grunt of effort, her body seems to coil like a spring as she halts her run at the edge of the engagement area, turning all that momentum into a tremendous throw toward the rat on the roof.

About time.

Karie is quick to react to the charging enemies; she'd already taken a glance at her skill loadout and was itching to try a few things out.

First, Iai Strike. It has the longest cooldown and is also my strongest skill, which means it's most useful at the beginning and at the end of a battle; I can burn it early to get a quick kill in, then let it build while I use my weaker skills to clean up some other enemies...

Taking a few running steps to make sure she gets in the activating range towards one of the thugs, Karie activates her charging sword-draw technique, quick as the wind.

Technique: Iai Strike @ Ratthug
