Singularity Hunters: The Rigel Incident

Spot leaps up and grabs the guard; this time a couple of tentacles go around his neck, though he's not squeezing hard enough to choke. "What I'm not is a Singularity. Your bosses tried to bootstrap one. They failed. Most of them died." One of the tentacles beckons Wilshire over: "Would you please tie him up now."

[Stan Cold]

Wilshire ties up the guard.

Spot jumps up at the guard, but somehow manages to get tangled up in the collapsed table for a moment - not long, but long enough for the guard to move.

As he leaps up, though, Wilshire grabs his arms. The man is as slippery as an eel, but he's simply no match for Wilshire's technique - the hold Wilshire put him in is not as good as Wilshire would like, but it is a hold. He struggles to squirm out of it...

Guard: Fists: 0 Target: +1

...without success.

Since Wilshire has him, Spot ties him. Helping to restrain him where necessary.

Somehow, between the two of them, Spot and Wilshire manage to hold down the slippery guard, despite all his thrashing about. "Don't kill me!" he wails, trying and failing to push himself closer to the window.

"We are not going to kill you. There are too many dead already. We are going to leave you here unharmed to be found by your coworkers or the police; the innocent victim of robbers."

If he hasn't been tied yet, Spot finishes the task.

"Remember; you knew nothing about what your bosses were doing. Besides, this was your last day anyway."

[CCC]

"Nothing!" squeals the man, as Spot finishes the job of tying him up. "Absolutely nothing! They sent me here and cut my pay because I was accused of industrial espionage! I didn't even want to ask! About anything!"

[Weremensh]

"Thank you for being so understanding." Spot checks quickly to see if he has any tools or commo devices on him or in his pockets; if so it puts them aside so he can't get at them quickly. Then he props him up somewhere he's not too uncomfortable. "Now we must go. I hope you have better luck at your next job." With that Spot heads out and attempts to contact The Man to request a pickup.

"Hello?" says The Man.

Once Spot explains the situation, requests a pickup and gives his location ("outside the backup facility"), The Man arranges for a taxi to come and pick them up. The taxi arrives within ten minutes, screeching to a halt at the front gate.

"Were you successful in erasing the backup?" he asks.

[Weremensh]

"We took it. It is to be sent to The Man for safe keeping. We can discuss that later. Now we need to leave before the police arrive." Spot brings the two unconscious bodies to the cab, asking Wilshire to bring the servers.

[CCC]

"Indeed?" says The Man. "Safety first. Call me back when you have reached a safe location."

The taxi is driven by a short man with a lisp. "To the hothpital, I take it?" he asks, as the unconscious people are loaded in. "Are you thitizenth or vithitorth?"

[Stan Cold]

"Neither. I am WIshire."

[CCC]

The driver sighs. "Do you live in the thitty?" he asks.

[Weremensh]

Spot replies "We are...visitors. Please take us to (wherever the local group of anti-AI folks hole up). They can...sleep it off there."

[CCC]

"You got it, Mithter Robot." says the taxi driver, putting his car into gear and driving off.

The car radio stops playing classical music briefly. "We interrupt this music program for an urgent news bulletin. The main CyberSolutions campus has come under organised attack by a terrorist group of some sort. As of yet, no demands or justifications for the attack have been forthcoming; all four of the suspects escaped in a large black van, closely pursued by police vehicles. Fourteen deaths have been confirmed, and seventeen people remain missing. Any citizens in posession of any information regarding a black van, registration number 373-592-8559, are requested to contact the authorities immediately."

The taxi driver frowns. "They've been playing that every couple of minuteth." he says. "I can underthtand their fruthtrathion, you know, but there'th better wayth to deal with thith thort of thing."
