Kajin wrote:"Hey Michael, let me see that Plasma Rifle of yours!" Jack pipes up, offering up his Laser Pistol in exchange. "I noticed that it's been acting up a bit. A malfunctioning weapon is just as likely to get you killed as no weapon at all. While you guys are gathering supplies, I'll see if I can't make any headway on repairing your Plasma Rifle for you."

"Thanks, Jack," Michael replies accepting the trade. "I'm afraid I probably made things worse trying to fix it myself."

He then quickly hurries about, gathering whatever he can get his hands on before the Legion's attention returns to the outpost.

Justin keeps firing, and takes a look at the battlefield when he has a chance to do so without getting his face shot off.

Strongpoint there, already occupied by Knights. Looks like it took some rocket hits. Two downed Paladins over there from what I can see. Lost causes... damnit. Ok.

Letting his brother and cousins continue to fire, Justin hops down into the Vertibird and looks at the scribes. One looks dead... but he isn't. Good.

"Scribe, you look after that one. Grab a toolkit for a suit of Armor, and the wounded one, and get out the back of the Vertibird. Do not expose yourself to fire, or the Legion will be the least of your worries. You, if this craft is salvageable by the means at your disposal, prepare to deny it to the enemy."

Justin reaches into a compartment, jarred open by the crash, and pulls out a satchel of EMP grenades. Part of the emergency kit, they are intended to turn the Vertibird into a lump of useless metal with all of it's circuits fried, and more importantly it's navigational data and radio codes erased. He thrusts them into the hands of the smaller scribe.

"You have as long as it takes the Knights outside to move Paladin Julia to proper cover. If you scribes are not ready to go by that time, I will leave you here."

Justin climbs back on his firing step next to Judah and fires a few rounds at the Legion. Then he shouts outside the cousins who helped secure sister Julia.

"We'll provide cover, you have to move her as fast as you can to that building. Someone in there is still firing at the Legion, and we're going to be overrun here if we don't move. As soon as you get there, cover us and we'll follow with the scribes! Go!"

Justin begins to fire as fast as the capacitors on his rifle will recharge, focusing-aperture cool rates be damned.

Jeremiah frowns down at his father briefly, but his training takes over almost immediately. He gets to his feet and looks at Joseph. "Joe, you heard the Knight. Get to it!" With that he leaps to action, grabbing what he needs and carrying out Justin's orders with a cold efficiency.

Sook clambers back up onto the rubble after freeing his saber from the remains of the roof. He draws his pistol again, watching the Legion descend on the fallen 'bird. Glancing back, he motions for Jack to join him, then says, "It looks like I haven't done a very good job as a bodyguard, mate. Sorry about that, I was acting... slightly foolhardy." He winces, then says, "Were you hurt in the explosion? I don't think I have any stimpacks left, but Michael may once he finishes getting the Knights on their feet."

Peering off over the ruins, Sook attempts to make out the condition of the Knights from the 'bird, but it's likely he won't see much without optical assistance...

Calmly and coldly Jason pops up from cover and lets a missile fly into the middle of the massed ranks of the Legion. He drops back into cover to reload and pats his sledge lovingly. "soon little one.. soon." He turns away from the Keystone and opens his glove slightly. From a pouch he pulls two hypos and injects his wrist. He closes the glove onto his armor and lets the chems fire him up.

Justin scowls as the Knights outside led by Jason don't immediately start moving Julia as he and his brother lay down covering fire.

"For Maxson's sake! Cover me!"

Justin leaps down to the ground outside, shoves Jason in the chest, grabs his sister by part of the harness still wrapped around her Power Suit and begins dragging her.

"Help me, or cover me, or when I finish with her I will kill you myself!"

"Family so nice, they tell you twice." Joe grabs the tool kit and tries to heft his uncle up. He then proceeds to look out for any Legion fire as he exits the Vertibird.

Small Judah, Jeremiah's eldest brother (so-called because he is smaller than Judah, despite being a year older), hands his machine gun to Jason and grabs Julia's harness; together, he and Justin get her off the ground. Joel and Jebediah join with Judah and Jason in providing cover for the Keyes' retreat. Joseph gets Jacob clear of the 'bird as Jeremiah primes the EMPs to go off once they are clear - two minutes.

The Keyestone quickly make their way through the trench dug by the crashing Vertibird, circling around the Legion and heading towards the Hot Springs outpost.

Back at the outpost, Michael manages to get the remaining Knights (half a dozen) whipped back into shape, though the panicked one (youngest of the bunch) doesn't look like he'll hold the line if it comes to it. Jack fiddles with the plasma rifle, but doesn't make a lot of progress; he just doesn't have the parts to get much done (not even jury-rigged). Michael finds some stimpacks and medical supplies that haven't been buried in the rubble.

As Sook tries to locate the survivors of the crash, he is witness to a bright flash, whose wake is the tell-tale crackle of an EMP blast. The Legion draws back from the explosion, and Sook thinks he can see people silhouetted by the blast, heading towards the outpost. Their identity is not clear, obviously, being just vague silhouettes.

Sook squints towards the explosion- he doubts the Legion would have simply disabled the Vertibird, which means that someone else did. "Heads up," he calls, climbing back down. "The Legion's at the 'bird, and we've got company on the way. I can't tell if they're friendly or not, but I'd recommend not drawing attention to ourselves. Let's give them a welcome and get ready to move." He pops his pistol's cartridge, slots the few rounds he fired back in from his bandoleer, and moves to watch both the ditch and the Legion at the same time.

Jason barrels along at the head of the running pack. Anything that gets in the way will get a face full of super sledge.

Jeremiah helps Joseph with Jacob after the EMPs have been placed. Together they drag him along toward the outpost, letting the Knights keep the Legion at bay.

After a few moments of examining and fiddling around with the Plasma Rifle, Jack heaves an exasperated sigh and kicks the wall. "Dammit! I need the proper parts to fix this thing!" After a second or two of further wall kicking, Jack starts searching the area around himself to try and locate anything he can use to fix the Plasma Rifle. He isn't much use as far as combat is concerned, so he tries not to think about the Legionnaires that are on their way to kill them.

Sook dashes across an open area behind a building at the edge of the outpost, stepping over a legionnaire's body. Pressing himself up against the wall, he holds his pistol ready, looking around the corner towards the bird again. A few hundred feet away, scattered metal marks where the engine went out. He narrows his eyes, watching the figures, ready to step out and wave them over if they're friendly...

Sook is the first to spot them, charging towards the outpost, silhouetted against the after-glow of the EMP explosion. He can't readily identify the assailants; all he's sure of is the group is led by a giant man not in power armour, screaming and charging with what looks like a giant mace or hammer in hand.

Sook rapidly runs through options in his head. Enemy? Likely. Friendly? Likely as well. Stand and fight? Death if they're Legion. Run and live? Well, they haven't seen him yet. In any case... fortune favors the brave.

He holsters the pistol, and then, hesitating, decides. He draws his saber, steps past the corner, raises it, and shouts, "BROTHERHOOD! WITH ME!" He waits until he can make out their party's allegiance, and readies to haul it back to the outpost if they don't slow down or if they start shooting.
