Star Trek

Anyone want to play Star Trek?

If so, do you want to play on a starship (Starfleet) or a starbase (mostly Starfleet, but non-Starfleet allowed)?

Between TOS and TNG. Shortly after the Khitomer Accords, and before the Khitomer massacre.

It is a well-established fact that I only run games that I would rather be playing in.

I say Starship if we are the command crew, and Starbase if not.

I'm planning on having "Rank" be a stat you can buy, so the choice of whether PCs are the commanders or not is up to them.

I bought the FASA Star Trek box set so that Lisa could run games for me. So I guess what I'm saying is . . . yeah. I'm up for it.

I'm up for it, and I vote starbase.

Will the battles be primarily space engagements or ground combat? The thing that interested me so much about the game Skitz was going to run was the ship to ship combat.

If you're in a ship, there will be a fair amount of ship stuff. Probably less for a starbase.

As long as I get to play with hand phasers and the like, I don't partcularily care where we are.

Okay, I guess that's all the votes we're getting. Looks like ship wins.

I'll be taking between 4 and 6 players, based on fiat and background. Since you are serving on a starship (the recently refitted (after 30 years of service) USS Excelsior), you will all be members of Starfleet.

Creation is SPIRIT, with 6 points to spend.

In addition to the 6 SPIRIT points to spend, you will have an additional 6 points to divide between the scores of Rank, Experience/Expertise, and Commerce/Contacts.

Rank is just that - Rank in Starfleet. It also represents the service record that comes with your promotions.

0 - Enlisted. Crewman, Petty Officer or Chief.
1 - Ensign.
2 - Lieutenant, junior grade
3 - Lieutenant
4 - Lieutenant Commander
5 - Commander
6 - Captain (only one Captain will be allowed)

For each point invested in Rank, you can choose one Starfleet-related task to gain a +1 in (examples include Starship Engineering, Diplomacy, Starship or Ground Tactics). You may choose the same task twice, for a +2 bonus, but cannot raise a bonus beyond +2 with Rank.

Experience is experience related to starships that may or may not be Starfleet related, but experience that did not result in promotions. The same grouping may also be referred to as Expertise, in which case it reflects natural aptitudes and ability rather than direct experience.

In either case, each point invested in Experience/Expertise allows you to choose a starship or combat task to gain a +1 in. Examples would include Warp Field Mechanics, Starship Engineering, Hand-to-Hand or Phaser Combat. Experience/Expertise can grant a maximum of a +3 bonus.

Commerce represents non-Starfleet experience, skills from civilian life. Alternatively, it can be expressed as Contacts, bonuses derived from knowing the right people, usually from outside Starfleet.

Each point invested in Commerce/Contacts grants a +1 bonus to a task not related to starships or combat, such as Diplomacy, Gambling, Haggling. Commerce/Contacts can grant a maximum of a +3 bonus.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either here or by IM if you have it.

Lieutenant Commander George Kinski
Age 43, Born on Ganymede Colony

Speed: 0
Prowess: 2
Immunity: 1
Resolve: 3
Ingenuity: 0
Talent: 0

Rank-Skill: Starship Battle Tactics (II)
Rank-Skill: Ship-to-Ship Torpedo Combat (II)
Experience:Starship Battle Tactics (I) (+3 total)
Experience: Ship-to-Ship Phaser Combat (I)

Excerpt from the service records of George Kinski follows:
After attending Starfleet Academy (Class of 2289, 17th in his class) Kinski served with distinction on the crew of several ships in, proving himself to be a natural at a Tactical console. Kinski was unfortunate to be a member of the crew of the USS Warren Robertson when that ship was destroyed in 2304 in combat against two Klingon Birds of Prey. Kinski was one of the eighteen survivors found among the wreckage of the Warren Robertson, and suffered massive trauma. (Right leg from hip down, left leg below the knee, right arm below the elbow, thumb, first and second finger of left hand, lower jaw, right eye.)

Kinski refused medical discharge (Starfleet regulation 132.6.a) and underwent reconstructive surgery and four years of rehabilitation. He has been serving aboard the USS Excelsior since 2308.

Captain Finn Tokamak
Age 41, Born in Rovaniemi, Finland
Speed: 0
Prowess: 1
Immunity: 0
Resolve: 0
Ingenuity: 3
Talent: 2

Rank-Skill: Starship Battle Tactics (II)
Peace Negotiations (II)
Hand-to-Hand Combat (II)

USS Excelsior's Captain's Log:
"This is Captain Tokamak, taking over command of the Excelsior. It's... it's quite intimidating, filling the shoes of the honorable Captain Sulu. Hopefully, I can fulfill the duties adequately enough. A little about myself, since nothing terribly exciting is happening at the moment. After I graduated Starfleet Academy, I served aboard the USS Jung as a Science officer. While there, I was studying a Denebian slime devil when the blasted thing took out my eye. Fortunately, Starfleet was able to supply a robotic prosthetic. Unfortunately, they didn't pay much attention to the fact that it's the wrong bloody color! But, what's done is done. After years of hard work, a successful hostage negotiation involving several high-ranking officers, and a flawless victory in a boxing match with several Mugato, I was promoted to Captain and given command of the Excelsior. And... here we are! Hopefully we'll all get along just-okay, could somebody please turn down these lights!? My eye is getting camera flare and it's giving me a headache!"
