Several eyebrows go up around the room, not the least the monastic mages'. The abbot looks at her for a second, then replies to Cloverleaf: "We still have a few things to finish here, but if you would like to start out ahead of us you are free to."

Cloveleaf glances at Kinzie and Teddy, to see if they have any objection; failing any objection on their part, he heads back towards the abbey.

Walking about with a staff in each hand may look a touch ridiculous, but Cloverleaf's never particularly minded about looking ridiculous. And he'll want to keep his old staff, for use after he returns Twig to Lynden the Green.

The monastic mage watches him leave, then asks the other two: "Is he normally that...impulsive? That staff does represent a danger to him if he's not careful."

"All the time," Kinzie replies with a sigh. "The worst part? It usually works out for him."

"That's interesting." She replies. "It must be nice to be so sure the Gods like you."

"Perhaps they do." comments the abbot. "It's not for us to say. However, if you two wish to join him please feel free. This matter seems to be under control, and it will be a few hours before we can properly figure out what is owed you and conclude our arrangement. If you don't wish to join him...it looks like we could use some help getting the barrels out of the basement and loaded onto a wagon." He seems perfectly content with either choice.

After some time, Cloverleaf arrives at the monastery. He knocks on the door (not with Twig - that would be undignified for a sentient staff - but with his old staff instead) and waits for the door to be answered.

When it is, he politely lifts the brim of his hat with Twig and says "Good afternoon. Might we peruse your records a little? We'd like to find out if there is any record of a mage by the name of Lynden the Green."

The same monk is on duty when Cloverleaf arrives. He looks down the road towards town, then back: "Which 'we' would you be referring to? Pardon me for asking, but there only seems to be one of you here."

"Ah. Indeed. That would be me and Twig here." says Cloverleaf, holding up the staff. "Twig was stolen from Lynden the Green, hence our interest."

"I see." He pauses for a second, then continues: "Before I let you in, I must ask if would you please lean the staff "Twig" against a gate post, then step over to the other one. I mean no disrespect to either of you, but that is the rule."

"Oh! I see. Yes, a sensible precaution." Cloverleaf leans Twig against the gatepost - and leans his other, ordinary staff against the gatepost as well - and takes two steps back. He waits patiently until the monk indicates that he is satisfied that Cloverleaf is not just a puppet of a staff.

After a few seconds, the monk nods. "Thank you. Feel free to come in; I believe the librarian is in the copy room, up those stairs next to the statues of the Three Wisdoms."

"Excellent. Thank you very much."

Cloverleaf strolls past the monk, and heads into the monastory. He glances around for the nearest statues of three vaguely humanoid figures, and heads up the stairs next to them.

The statues actually represent two diligent looking women, and a slightly nervous looking man, all holding pens and scrolls. The stairs past them leads up a level to a dutch door (a door in two halves) with the top open; beyond it Cloverleaf can see three monks working at desks and one grinding ink. One of the writers at a desk notices Cloverleaf, and looks up to ask "Do you have the third volume?"

"I'm sorry, I don't have any volumes with me." replies Cloverleaf. "I'm here to look for any information that you may have on a mage by the name of Lynden the Green?"

"Lyndon the...?" The monk pauses for a second, then turns to one of the others. "That's sounds like your kind of question, Sister Shepherd."

After a second or two, the somewhat short woman addressed looks up. "Hmm? What was that?" "This man is looking for a Lynden the Green." replies the other. "Any thoughts?"
She turns to Cloverleaf, and he sees she's a rather tall middle-aged hobbit instead of a short human. "Why don't you come in, then. This may take a bit of time."
