Atlantis shakes in the night. The frost trolls are heard howling across Germania. African villages are ransacked by the undead. Barbarians sharpen their blades in Hyrkania. Storms brew over Europa. Dragons circle the villages of Asia Minor. The gods grow restless. War is imminent.

Risk: Godstorm takes the classic game of war and strategy and adds to it weapons of holy destruction. Up to five civilizations battle for world domination in the name of their gods, who will be played by you. Command your armies to crush your enemies, take over the world and even invade the Underworld. Choose from five civilizations: the Babylonians, the Celts, the Egyptians, the Greeks or the Norse. You can create your own civilization and pantheon, but you must choose one of these civs to represent you. Each civ gets a sky god, a war god, a death god and a god of magic. First come, first serve on civs. Rules will be explained in a later post once all the players choose a civ.

Or, if you wish to read them beforehand, go here.

And that closes recruiting! There are some key differences between Godstorm and classic Risk.

Faith Tokens
Faith is measured in tokens which you may use to gain miracles and summon gods. You start with three tokens and gain more with each turn.

Miracle Cards
Miracles are cards played for bonuses to yourself or detriment to your enemies. Miracles come in four types, correlating to the gods: Sky, War, Death and Magic. You obtain miracles in one of two ways: 1. Have the card's god in play and sacrifice two faith tokens. 2. Have the card's god in play and perform the labor on the card. Labors are type-specific.

Sky: Defeat one or more gods on your turn.
War: Conquer three or more territories on your turn.
Death: Control a crypt at the end of your turn.
Magic: Roll at least three of the same number.

Gods
Gods are your friends. Unless they're your enemies. They grant bonuses to your armies. You may summon a god by sacrificing three faith tokens and placing him on any territory where you have at least one army. A godswar is when an army with a god attacks another army with a god. One god must go before any armies fall. Three dice will be rolled for each god. I add up the number on the dice and then add the number of armies the god has on his current position. Gods come in four flavors: Sky, War, Death and Magic. Each type has it's own bonus.

Sky: When the god of the sky is in a godswar, roll an additional dice.
War: When the god of war attacks, you win ties.
Death: When the god of death attacks, opposing armies do not go to the Underworld.
Magic: When the god of magic attacks or defends, reroll all ones.

Your gods have names. Feel free to nickname them or change their names altogether.

Babylonians (FreakyBoy)
Marduk, god of the sky
Gilgamesh, god of war
Druaga, god of death
Ishtar, goddess of magic

Celts (Grillick)
Lugh, god of the sky
Nuada, god of war
Arawn, god of death
Brigid, goddess of magic

Egyptians (weatherwax)
Ra, god of the sky
Set, god of war
Osiris, god of death
Isis, goddess of magic

Greeks (Kajin)
Zeus, god of the sky
Ares, god of war
Hades, god of death
Hekate, goddess of magic

Norsemen (Ross_Varn)
Odin, god of the sky
Thor, god of war
Loki, god of death
Freya, goddess of magic

The Underworld
Image
Usually when your armies die, they go to the heaven of your civ. Once there, they may embark from heaven to an unoccupied gate or a gate that is occupied by you. If it is unoccupied by an enemy, you may invade it. Gates are the doorway thingies. If you control an altar (the tables with the cups) in the Underworld, you gain one die to roll in a godswar. If you control a crypt, you may move one army to a territory with a temple. One army is moved for each crypt you control.

Temples
Each temple you control gives you one faith token and one army at the beginning of the next turn. The army must be placed in the territory where the temple is located. If a defending territory contains a temple, the defending player rerolls all ones. You may build a temple at the sacrifice of five faith tokens. The temple limit on the game is twelve and you may not build temples in the Underworld.

Plague
Territories with plague reduce the armies there by half, rounding down. That means one army may control a plague land indefinitely. Four plague territories have been chosen at random to begin.

Hesperide (Atlantis)
Sicilia (Europa)
Cimmeria (Hyrkania)
Babylon (Asia Minor)

If a god enters a plagueland, they are banished.

A few courtesies:
Alliances, threats, coercion, whining, pleading, backstabbing, invocation of the divine wrath of your ancestors, and other verbal tirades are not only allowed but also encouraged.
How many faith tokens a player has is public knowledge.
The number and type of miracle cards a player has is public knowledge, though what they say is not.

If you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask.

Territory cards were dealt to determine starting territories. The Babylonians, Norsemen and Greeks control eight territories while the Celts and Egyptians control nine. This was determined by dice roll.

Babylonians (FreakyBoy
Rus
Caledonia
Ionia
Scythia
Apulia
Assyria
Atlas
Liguria

Celts (Grillick)
Gaul
Galicia
Thule
Sumer
Parthia
Graecia
Roma
Sicilia (PLAGUE)
Carthage

Egyptians (weatherwax)
Cimmeria (PLAGUE)
Egypt
Iberia
Nubia
Corsica
Kush
Phoenicia
Thracia
Varangia

Greeks (Kajin)
Oricalcos
Sarmatia
Dalmatia
Poseidonis
Alemannia
Hibernia
Gaitulia
Hesperide (PLAGUE)

Norsemen (Ross_Varn)
Dacia
Tritonis
Anatolia
Sheba
Minoa
Anglia
Babylon (PLAGUE)
Cyrenacia

The map so far:
Image
Terrible photo, but it gives you a general idea. Babylonians are blue, Celts are green, Egyptians are tannish yellow, Greeks are plum and Norsemen are orange. A clearer map is at the beginning of the instructions linked in the first post.

Babylonians, Greeks and Norsemen have seventeen armies to distribute amongst your territories. Celts and Egyptians have sixteen. You also get to place one temple and a God of War. Since there is a clear strategic bonus at placing your troops later over sooner, I left it to dice roll.

Placement Order:
Babylonians (FB)
Norse (RV)
Celts (Grill)
Egyptians (WW)
Greeks (Kajin)

Placement should be formatted as followed:
Country (Number of troops added to country, temple if applicable, god if applicable)

Finally, feel free to roleplay as you please. Roleplaying is player driven. The scenario is the gods are waging war to conquer Ancient Earth.

It would take forever if we did one army at a time placement; are we intended to do full placement instead?

Yes. I'm debating over whether to have you post it so your positions would be public, like in a real world game, or PM me your positions and have them revealed once everyone's done.

I'll just have you post them for the realism.

"ZEUS!"

The man slams his knife into the table. It embeds itself into the table up to it's hilt. The large man in the furs glares around at the long table and the gathered faces around.

"I tell ye. Zeus. The fleet saw him striding through the eastern reach two tides ago."

"Borin, are ye sure ye have na been drinking-" one of the men starts nervously-

"OAF! Ye did nay see it! The man- the beast-"

At the other end of the table, another man stands, his ornate robes flowing around his heels. He speaks, quieting the muttering noblemen. "Silence, Borin. Raving madly will not help your case."

The first man sits suddenly, glaring still. "I am nay mad. This be the truth."

"And I believe you, my friend, but the others here have nay seen a God walk the Earth. Listen," the Norse says, looking at the others. His regal features glimmer in the flickering lantern light. "This may signal the start of something anew. We have seen the Babylonian troops build on our borders. As your Lord, we will continue to be ready. We must send messengers to our neighbors and former allies in the last war."

"Pray that Babylon does not decide it is their time to take our lands. Our home. For if they do-"

The gathered Norse grin fervently, looking to each other. A man in the middle of the table shifts his sheathed sword forward. Another unswings his axe.

"The Gods shall walk again!"

Better image of the starting map (weatherwax, making your armies with a nice black border was surprisingly annoying in GIMP).

Stan, I noticed a plague marker on Hesperide but you didn't mention it. Since there's supposed to be four starting plague lands, I assumed it should be there and marked it.

I also assume mountains are impassable.
