"No, Teddy, I didn't notice. I know I'm shorter than you, but I'm still not a dwarf." She rolls her eyes, then claims the broken pick as a prize that goes in her pack. Then she takes a stone chip, pull out her jeweller's monocle, and examines it.

"I should have paid more attention in geology."

"It's not?" asks Cloverleaf, surprised, coming back to take a look at the stone chips. "Is it the same stone as the buttresses we passed earlier?"

He takes a close look at some of the chips, and thinks about what he knows of transmutation - would it leave magical traces in the transmuted object that he can pick up?

The stone chip seems, under close examination, to be a small chunk of granite stress fractured from a bigger piece. It does seem to be the same kind of stone that was holding up the dirt tunnel.

Cloverleaf knows that there is a higher level spell which will turn rock into mud and back again. To the best of his knowledge (which is a bit limited), it doesn't leave long term traces. As for other methods of transmutation? He has no idea; it wasn't really something he studied in any particular depth.

"It's certainly a lot of work to go to for some drinks." says Cloverleaf. "I haven't seen any sign of magic yet, but this tunnel must have required an impressive amount of manual labour."

He drops the stone chips back on the ground, and steps ahead into the tunnel again. "So let's go through here and see where it comes out, shall we?"

"Sounds good to me."

Teddy follow Cloverleaf, though he'll let Kinzie go ahead of him if she would like to not be in the rear.

Kinzie will follow along behind Teddy, passing him the light as he's got he best angle for it anyway.

The corridor goes on for a while, apparently back in the general direction of town. After what seems to be a few hundred yards, it forks; continuing as before on one side and slanting down and to the left on the other.

Cloverleaf looks at the two tunnels. "Well." he says, after a moment. "This is evidently a rather more extensive operation than I'd first thought."

He studies the ground, trying to see if there's any sign which way the wine barrels were rolled.

While Teddy looks for signs of more recent excavation.

Kinzie sighs, taking back the light. "We go up. If the tunnel opens elsewhere in town, we need to eliminate that lead, and possibly discover additional victims." And so she does.

Cloverleaf doesn't see any indications of the barrels. Teddy thinks both directions were dug at essentially the same time (within a week or two, anyway). The tunnel continues on ahead of Kinzie (at least for now).

Teddy follows the others.

"They dug both tunnels recently."

"So this one might not have been discovered yet," Kinzie remarks as she continues on.
