"I've never really spoken with a Styric child before," admits Sir Ulath, "but I don't think they're generally mute. They're certainly not usually found without parents, in the middle of nowhere." He shrugs.

The little girl, meanwhile, nods in answer to Nate's question, and gives him a kiss on the tip of his nose.

"Little girl," asks Sir Ulath, "you lost?"

She shakes her head.

"Where are your parents?"

She shrugs.

While all this is going on, Felix sidles over to the tools and work supplies not too far away and starts working on preparing for the next windmill. Moving stuff here and there to clear the site. Planning where everything is gonna go and how it's all gonna connect together. Nothing too intense beyond basic prep work. While he's doing this he keeps talking.

"So we've got questions, questions and more questions," Felix speaks while he works. "I guess I'll ask what needs to be asked. If the local village doesn't get on too well with Styric, then I suppose there isn't much choice. Would you like to stay with us until we can find your parents? I'm sure we can find a bed for you until then. Unless you already have a place you're staying at?" Felix asks the girl. He's not about to turn away someone that might need help, but if the girl isn't actually in need then there's no reason to worry about the matter.

"Alright then, what is your name? We can't just keep calling you Little Girl."

The little girl nods.

She ignores the question, giving Dr. Vanderbilt a hug instead.

This seems to stump the little girl for a moment. She stares into space, tapping one finger on her chin, then raises her flute and plays a happy, cheery little tune.

"Do you want to be called Piper?" Felix asks.

She considers it for a moment, and then shrugs and nods.

"Close enough, huh?"

Nate gets up, having finished his meal, and starts pulling together some tools so he can help Felix with further construction.

"Well Piper, we need to get back to work now. If you want, you can give us a hand."

If she decides to help, Nate will put her to work fetching tools, threading bolts onto nuts and other small tasks.

Felix resumes construction in earnest, making sure Piper is out of the way of anything dangerous while he works. He'll keep doing this until the next Windmill is up or something comes along to distract them.

Piper will help as Nate requests, and any time she doesn't have anything immediate to do, she'll sit somewhere out of the way and play pleasant tunes on her flute.

Felix: Engineering: +5 Roll: +0 Total:+5
Nathen: Engineering +2 Roll: +1 Total: +3

The second windmill doesn't go quite as smoothly as the first, and only takes until about sunset to put up - not bad, considering that it normally takes a full day just to put up one of the unwieldy devices.

And it's almost exactly sunset when Sir Bevier arrives back at camp, pulling a cart filled with grain, flour, eggs, a variety of vegetables, and other farm produce with a half-dozen pies placed on top.

"If I'd known you were going to be putting up your own mills, I'd have bought more unmilled grain," he comments drily.

"Nah, that's fine," Felix laughs. "We can go back and get more grain later. For now, though, we need them spinning to generate power for the ship. Speaking of, I'm gonna go check how things are going on board. See if we've got enough stored to get anything working. Be back in a bit."

Felix heads aboard the ship, silently cursing the lack of an easier way to get aboard. They'll have to build a lift at some point. Once he's on board he heads to the bridge to see about the state of power and see if they can get anything working. If they have enough spare power for the fridges that'd be great. Some better lighting for the living areas would be great as well. Make the place less imposing for their guests. As it stands the ship is more like a catacomb than anything. Not exactly welcoming for anyone that doesn't know what to expect.

After the windmill goes up, Nate busies himself with gathering more firewood, before taking some time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the feeling of being outdoors and doing something constructive. He tells Piper, (and anyone else who cares to listen in) myths and legends of earth's. Tales of heros, giants, and heros who were giants.

The computer stubbornly says that its systems are charging and refuses guest accounts. Rummaging around through the manuals, Felix finds that until a certain level of battery charge is recovered, the computer won't let anyone in without the root password.

Some back-of-the-envelope calculations, based on a few reasonable assumptions about how many solar panels were left, how badly drained the batteries were, and so on, suggests that the battery power will be up to scratch (at current charging rates) anytime from "tomorrow" to "late next year".

Sir Ulath replies to Nate's story with a story of his own, regarding an ogress (he claims that the giant horns on his helmet are ogre horns) who, for some reason, fell for one of his brother Genidian knights, and used to sit around outside the chapterhouse, yowling at the top of her voice, day and night, and driving all the knights near insane from lack of sleep. He tells it with a perfectly straight face.

Sir Bevier would like to know who would take which watch overnight.

Felix gripes about the old, worn out equipment. It takes him a minute to shake off the feeling of disconnect that causes, as the equipment was brand new top of the line stuff when he went and got himself put in cryo. He resolves to spend the next day going over the ship's power grid, affecting repairs and maintenance where he can. For now, though, he'll set the guests up wherever they feel most comfortable be it on the ground or in the ship and elects to take first watch unless Nathan wants to call dibs. His visor will give him excellent night vision, so he won't be impaired by the darkness.

Nate decides to take the last watch. If someone were to attack, just before dawn would be the most likely time, and besides, this gives him an opportunity to get started on breakfast.

The knights politely but firmly point out that on the ship, with the ladder pulled up, is the most defensible position available. Sir Bevier shares the news that there have been bandit raids in the nearby village lately, and the bandits are likely hiding out in this forest; Sir Ulath feels that after a star fell down to earth, causing the Earth to shake and a building the size of a small town to appear out of nowhere, that it would be a very rare bandit who decided to then attack that building.

Sir Bevier takes second watch, Sir Ulath third. Doctor Vanderbilt and Piper manage to avoid getting assigned a watch.

Felix: Alertness: +2 Roll: -1 Total: +1
Sir Bevier: Alertness: +0 Roll: +1 Total: +1
Sir Ulath: Alertness: +2 Roll: +2 Total: +4
Nathan: Alertness: +4 Roll: +1 Total: +5

The night passes largely uneventfully. During Nathan's watch, however, he notices something odd; despite the fact that there's next to no wind at ground level, there seems to be a near gale force wind at the height of the windmills, causing them to spin furiously. This does not strike him as normal weather.

In the morning, when Felix checks the computer, he finds that it is now permitting non-administrative logins.
