I don't know what linguist would fall under (perhaps it would involve social skills, though?), but we did some computer programming a while back and used Science for that I think.

Ah, thanks! (Linguist falls under Academic. There is literally a stunt for it =)

edit: Would it be okay to have maybe one of the NPCs as a guest star?

Programming is Science. Linguistics is Academics. And yes, there is a stunt that really improves that.

It would be okay to have the Terran NPCs turn up in your backstory, yes (as long as they remain vaguely in character).

I suspect that someone who can make shift to understand the local languages without a miracle will not need to wait to be woken up. Just my suspicion, mind.

A linguist, whether they understand the local language or not, I'd imagine would be incredibly useful in helping teach our people to communicate with the locals so we don't need to stand by and be translators all the time.

Just in passing, detonators are not wired to the explosives before they're getting ready to be fired (except perhaps for a continuity test). That's one of those potential oops situations waiting to happen.

Is the approaching group of horsemen the first to arrive, or did the real knights already show?

The Knights have not yet arrived. This is either them or the mercenaries.

Would this mean that the early arrival of this column has left your explosives detonator-free?

If we're still in the process of setting them up, then yeah. The detonator itself is likely the last thing we'd hook up to avoid the, ah, "oops" that Weremensh is talking about.

If the explosives have been set up, the detonator is likely connected and ready to go, only needing a safety interlock to be disabled, a key to be turned, a pin to be pulled.

That seems a reasonable precaution, especially considering that you don't know exactly when either knights or mercenaries will turn up.

If no such signal was arranged, Arkady plans to introduce Vanire to binoculars.

Query; is Vanire wearing an easily identifiable helm?

He's not wearing a helm at all right now, because he doesn't want the approaching horsemen to spot a Pandion up on the wall.

Once the detonator is ready, Felix should do a continuity test...which would be something we would have been doing periodically anyway, since we can hardly watch buried wires from inside the castle. I rather suspect the Terrans made the whole system rather redundant just in case, but poo happens...

Okay, after some discussion with CCC here's my character! Sorry I took so long =)

+5. Science
+4. Academic, Rapport
+3. Deceit, Empathy, Alertness
+2. Resolve, Investigation, Athletic, Fists
+1. Mysteries, Might, Survival, Endurance, Contacting

Luo Jie "Roger" Wong is the son of immigrants from Hong Kong. While speaking Cantonese at home, his parents were delighted when Roger showed an aptitude for English. He was your typical gifted youth in that he found normal schooling incredibly boring and was thus an under achiever growing up despite being intensely inquisitive. His parents became so distraught over his perceived lack of discipline that they shipped him off to a prestigious military academy. Roger naturally loathed every second he spent there. He did however keep up a fairly strict fitness routine to keep in shape.

Aspects: Curiosity Killed the Cat. Don't Tell Me What to Do.

At University, Roger discovered his passion for languages both human and computer, double majoring in linguistics and computer science. His thirst for knowledge drove him to become a competent hacker as well and it wasn't long at all before he was studying Russian and Mandarin-- essential languages in the world of hacking. Roger's favorite targets were evil multinational corporations to expose embarrassing and incriminating information (and he wasn't above making a quick buck in the stock market using such information, either). While believing in an individuals right to privacy, Roger feels that corporations and the government should not be allowed to keep secrets from the people.

Aspects: All Information Should Be Free, Hypocrite.

Unfortunately for Roger, his criminal activities caught up with him. Being VERY good at covering his tracks digitally, he was less discretionary when it came to personal relationships and ended up bragging about his exploits to an undercover FBI officer and went to prison for six years for insider trading. To add insult to injury his parents died tragically in a car accident while he was in prison. After getting out he swore he would no longer dishonor his parent's memory and use his abilities for good.

Aspects: Hacker. Sucker for a Pretty face.

Owing to his parent's wanting him to be a doctor, Roger found a worthy medical student and paid off all of her debts anonymously (Guest Starring Dr. Vanderbilt)

Aspects: Robin Hood complex. Secretive.

Enter The Order. An international conspiracy dedicated to enslaving human kind. While there were those waging a physical war against the Order, Roger made sure that there was no safe digital haven for the Order. Once the Order had been taken down, and with his parents being his only tie to this world, Roger volunteered to be a colonist on the Pandora. Guest Starring Nathan Snow.

Aspects: Nothing left for me here. Looking for Adventure.

Stunts:
Linguist (Academic)
Gift of Tongues (Academic)
Scientific Genius, Computers with specialization in hacking (Science)
Theory in Practice (Science)
The Right Questions (Rapport)
