Actually, that makes sense. I mean, wouldn't the realization that there is a very large animal devouring your flesh while you're still alive put your brain into shock?
I'm pretty sure that if I was being eaten by a lion and/or ghoul my first reaction would probably be "My God, I'm being eaten by a lion and/or ghoul! Help!"
