Tuesday thought Pete said he was going to the M-W-F format... Wasn't expecting him to put it up today. ----- Vote for Sluggy Freelance at Top Web Comics. Remember to vote EACH day. [#95 +1 *605]

Like it- shadowed contrast in opening scene is dramatic, and "The River" evokes Egyptian history nicely, strong mythological elements in both Egyptian and Jewish (Moses/bulrushes story) history and mythology. Intrigued to see where this is leading- and appreciative of some of the loose ends Pete is being intentional about addressing- though in a nice in-story way.
Also, aaaah bugs.

I saw the title and all I could think of was Prince of Persia, "Time is like a river..."

Symachus has really lightened up in his old age. I like it!

Yeah, that definitely looked more buff than Symachus did when we last saw him.
The Rana/Lunoa stuff is interesting, too. I imagine the spec forum is going to be buzzing about it.

I thought Symachus at first too, but I guess that would be weird for him to be so chill about it (also, the child was quite young when his eyes went -- though he named the taker incorrectly). Funny that he keeps the scales around, though.
Are the bugs because of the soul patch?
Elder Maloufo has a pretty big stick for a guy his age.
I wonder what's up with the bells on his scale staff. Is that just his way of announcing his arrival, or is there some more more sinister purpose at work?
Either way -- along with the Sun/Moon twin confirmation, I guess we're going to tie in to the Nile and its place in Egyptian history and mythology now...?

Yes, I like the subtle downgrade in architectural sophistication. I really liked the way the houses of ancient Mokhadun reminded me of AoE. I wonder if old Maloufo still has his harp-sword?

I love it. We see shades of how the gods will become reinterpreted by Egypt, by ancient Greece, and onward.

Caught most of the references to myth but can't think of who Asahn the Stone Arm refers to.

Asahn isn't a myth shared by our dimension and the comic's.
The bells would help a blind man both find his staff and navigate with it. Those canes blind people carry they use to tap against things, to both feel and hear what they strike.

How would the bells help the blind guy to find his staff -- unless he bumps into it?
Maybe if someone steals it...
