It's the specificity of Gwynn's upgrade that makes it so funny. Just the improved eyesight would be the traditional route to go in this situation, and getting rid of scars is a common thing to ask for when mystically improving your body. However, what makes it great is that, in the middle of an arcane ritual, Gwynn decided that, as long as she's risking her soul, she might as well get the most bang for her buck, and added a couple inches onto her height while she was at it.
And Torg's drawing is hilarious, too, of course.

Panel 4 eyes (not four eyes anymore) are creeping me out.
Also, yeah, she's not really "one with the book" in the DoL sense.
Aaaaaand it's the weekend.

Knowing the origins and intent of the book actually makes this a bit less scary for me now. Maybe I'm just confident Farahn can act as a buffer for her.
It's still a bad idea, but as she said - no choice. They are far and away the best hope of stopping the Captain before it reaches apocalyptic levels of bad.

That wasn't "quite explicitly" except for people who obsessively keep track of strips from years back and don't need to spell it out. Not everyone, but a lot of people. I've been waiting for "one with the book" ever since then, since we've seen a fair amount of parallels between DoL and Prime -- though of course the parallels are not exact.
