I forget, did we ever learn how the Zalias and Oasis met? That would be salient information. I expect they were in the desert and said out loud, "Man, what I wouldn't give for an oasis right now!"

Oasis met the Zalias in the bonus story for Book 9. The meeting was different from what you suggested; it probably would have been fun if Pete had written it that way though. Still, Kareen's statement in the last panel echoes something she said in that story.
