I'm worried about Riff, but I gotta say ... for a story this big, a big dramatic development feels appropriate. And to repeat what people were saying yesterday, I did NOT see this coming. Well played, Pete.

It's true, Riff is now the one in charge of the scroll-universe. However, there is no power there. That came from the Book of Evil having all those spells in them. When it was just the scroll, there was no power at all. So Riff is pretty much in a space with the Bug like at the very beginning of the Roomies arc.

This means that Riff is the Bug's "jailer" and the Bug can't do anything unless Riff allows him. I think the Bug was only able to reach out to others and talk to Quint, Allie, Siphy, Edda, and Gwynn because Farahn allowed him to do it, wanting out of there himself. Riff won't let himself be tricked like that.

In this comic Farahn is ecstatic about the power he received - this is after he swallowed the Bug and just prior to getting stuffed into the scroll. So I believe the power comes from the Bug (or perhaps the pillar), but is available to the vessel that holds him (which is now Riff), and not from the Book of E-ville, which inherently contained the scroll...

Yeah, the extra spells apparently allowed them to "furnish" the empty space...? Although I'm not sure how that worked, since none of the spells seemed to have anything to do with building palaces, panic rooms, etc.

I don't think the power Farahn received from K'Z'K is the same as the power he had over the magic in the book. Obviously, K'Z'K is very powerful so it makes sense that Farahn would feel powerful when possessed by him, but Farahn specifically had control over allowing people access to the magic of the spells contained within the book. That has nothing to do with the power of K'Z'K and K'Z'K was never shown to have direct access to those spells. On the contrary, he was shown several times in the roomies flashback to need to work around the fact that Farahn was the one who controlled access to the spells. That shouldn't be confused with K'Z'K being without power of his own. He maintained the ability of limited communication to the outside world, at least through dreams. That was independent of the magic of the book. He was able to do it before the book was even made and he continued to be able to after it was.
