What an asshat.

Also, my dog won't stop stealing my chocolate. It's less of an annoyance and more of a panic attack on my part. She hasn't consumed enough to actually be harmful to her, but she really does seem to like the taste of chocolate and it worries me.

Generally all dogs like the taste of chocolate. That's why it's so warned against. You'll need to find a better place for your chocolate.

My current annoyance is cleaning up after my cat. She's taken to repeatedly leaving fecal gifts on the carpet by the front door. That's the current annoyance part. The sad part is that though I'm not sure if it's another symptom of her hyperthyroidism, everytime I clean up after her it drives home that she's that much closer to succumbing to her condition. I've booked her in for a check up and possible blood work tomorrow.

My cats s#@$ on my floor all the time. It's not a health issue though, they just like ticking me off.

The Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth when Ridcully lovingly placed Mass Effect 3 in the Xbox, only to find that he can't import his personal Shepard due to a massive bug. Thanks, Bioware!

The past week has been one massive headache after another. I haven't had a truly decent night's sleep in the past three days because of all the problems that keep piling up and it isn't looking to get easier anytime soon.

Most of the problems aren't even mine, but those of my immediate family. It's exhausting me simply being on the edge of events. I can't even imagine what it must be like for the family that these problems are currently happening to.

Springing forward. It's bad enough that I work at 5 am on Sundays, but add in the stupid time change and I'm a cranky Solara.

Springing forward. Doesn't touch the production end of the paper, but we lose an hour of rolling and delivery time.

Dullest anime convention ever. I don't know how, but they managed to fill an entire hall with mostly nothing but posters and toys in display cases. Apart from some overpriced T-shirts, there was hardly anything on sale. It was so dull that Ngau went in prepared to spend US $250 on souvenirs and ended up buying 1 bottle of distilled water at the concession stand. At least I got to hang out with friends and see some cosplayers.

That's some seriously expensive water.

I received the guest lecturer's powerpoint this morning, and it sucks, and I can't do anything about it because it's a guest lecturer.

The long version: For a class on mental illness, the prof (who is a psychologist) invited a sociologist to give a talk on the "social construction of mental illness" according to Foucault. The prof suggested that homosexuality could be used as an example. The PowerPoint that arrived contains absolutely nothing about mental illness or Foucault, and instead it is an introductory lecture on gender and sexuality. It was likely recycled from another class.

Argh. I'm going to have some very confused students in class next week. They'll have absolutely no idea of what they're supposed to be learning.

We stopped going to conventions because a) the dealers room no longer tended to have random awesome stuff (like a Luis Royo tarot deck and an art book by him with an original sketch... man, that made my day) and b) generally, we ended up staying up in our hotel room playing fighting games for the entire weekend instead of actually doing any con stuff.

So now we simply have a get together around the same time as the con and play games at our place.

Only con I go to anymore is GenCon... which, being an hour south and me always wanting to get the jump on new miniatures releases, is practically a requirement for me to go.

You should hit Dragon Con. It's awesome. And there's actually two levels of dealers rooms. There's the one that's known as the dealers' room on the lower level of the Marriott (crowded and eclectic) and the exhibitors' room which is actually a couple of rooms on the next level up (it's less crowded although that might be because the rates are about triple those for the dealers' room. There's several LARP groups including one that's based around the con. There's also table top and card gaming. Not to mention, the celebrities that are there. That's where I got to actually meet Pete (hopefully he'll be back this year).

C2E2 is a pretty great time too -- maybe not as awesome as Dragon Con, but much closer!

The Hunger Games trilogy. Oof. I expect my academic lit to be depressing and heavy handed, and so gird my loins before reading.

When my fun lit is depressing and heavy handed, it's like a punch in the gut. I want to curl up in a ball, but I have 4 more hours of work to get through...
