Here, GH. Pretend this is the ending.

On topic: Daylight Savings. Who was the idiot that decided we needed brighter evening, not brighter mornings? I like having sun in the morning, it makes my day easier.

I believe it was Benjamin Franklin. You know, one of the founding fathers. Back before electricity and lightbulbs it was meant as a way to reduce the consumption of candles and lantern oil.

And extending the growing season, I think.

I'm going a little crazy seeing all the pictures and videos people post on the book of faces about their horses and showing. I miss it and I could really use the exercise, but it's expensive.

While suggested by Franklin long ago, Daylight Savings actually came about officially during WWI to cut costs of lighting due to rationing. Daylight savings shifts the extra hour of light from the morning (when no one is really using it except super early risers) to the evening (when people are awake and still busy). While often said to have something to do with agriculture, daylight savings never affected farmers, really. Traditionally, farmers rise with the sun, so their work would be in no way hindered/helped by a shift in what hour of the day we decide it is.

The US dropped Daylight Savings after WWI, but brought it back for WWII and it's stuck around ever since. Canada and Europe (except some Eastern European countries e.g. Russia) has had it from WWI on. It was officially standardized in the US in the 60s.

Other fun time things -- Time as a whole was not standardized for many, many years. It was "12 o clock" when the sun was highest in the sky. And this is how people set their clocks. Now, this wasn't a problem until trains became the thing. It was impossible to create an accurate timetable for departures and arrivals. Twelve o clock in Paris was 12:10 in Dijon, due to the sun's position. And so, time zones were born in an effort to standardize time to make train travel more efficient!

VLC. As soon as it finishes with the video I'm having it convert, the infernal thing immediately starts reconverting it, overwriting the previous conversion. And I don't have looping turned on.

I had four days of reserve duty this week. There was supposed to be a schedule but it all got screwed up so we did NOTHING for FOUR DAYS. Well, almost nothing. There was a total of about ten hours of presentations, most of which were boring.

Also, if you are in a class and your phone rings shame on you, you should know to silence your phone.
If you are in class and your phone rings after someone elses phone rings the what the hell is wrong with you? Didn't you figure it our when the first clown didn't silence his phone?
If you are in class and you phone starts to ring and you decide to answer it, but don't want to answer it in class so you leave while the ringtone is still playing, you should be shot.

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this at some point, but I've currently got a handful of piercings with more in the near future, a couple tattoos also with more planned, and obviously I change my hair color as desired. I was asked today why I get the piercings and tattoos. Each piercing is a change in myself, a character flaw that I have overcome and left behind with the piercing as physical proof to remind me of this. Each tattoo is representative of something meaningful in my life. The first was my love of music/relationships I've had up until my husband. The second is my husband's depiction of my heart, scars and all. They tell the story of who I am and who I've been. When people say they got theirs because "it feels good," "I like the pain," or "it's different/cool" I can't help but get annoyed that they are so fickle about something that's meant to be there for the rest of your life. I know people are free to do what they want with their own bodies no matter the reason, but that doesn't make it any less irritating when they assume I did it for the same reasons. My hair color is my only impulse and even that is structured and planned out beforehand.

It annoys me to no end whenever my computer tells me I misspelled a word that I prefer the British spelling for. I know I'm an American, but I'm multicultural dammit! Stop bugging me about it.

So I solved my previous problem with VLC by getting DVD Shrink. Worked for The Big Bang Theory. Worked for Firefly. Worked for The Lion King. Does not work on Castle. Does not work on Star Trek (2009).

I haven't stolen them. I paid for these TV shows and movies like a good little consumer. And I am not making them available for others to steal. But heaven forbid I should put the disc in my computer. Windows Media Player and VLC can play them, but anything that tries to actually convert them freezes. Grr!

Went and got a copy of Halo: CE Anniversary. I find it genuinely depressing that the original graphics are just as good as the "updated" version. Superior, even, if you count the fact that they don't hurt my eyes as much.

If it wasn't for the fact that one of my jerkass friends ruined my copy of the original Halo I'd feel as though I got ripped off for buying this.

Why do you assume that 'It feels good', 'I like pain' and 'It's different/cool' are fickle reasons to get a pearcing or tattoo? I get the being annoyed that people assume you got yours for the same reasons but to dismiss their reasons as fickle or somehow less than your reasons is a tad presumptuous don't you think?
