I only had one love in the Star Trek verse.

Ensign Harry Kim. He was so adorkable! (That's right, I'm taking that phrase away from Zooey Deschanel).

How can we talk about crushes from the Whedonverse and not mention Vi? She was the only potential I had eyes for.

Wow, I forgot all about my crush on Dr. Crusher.

inspiration wrote:Heh -- all my fictional crushes, from Captain Hastings (of Agatha Christie's Poirot novels) in junior high, to Niles Crane, to Jayne Cobb, to Prince Zuko, to Simon Ilyan (of Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan novels) -- have been hetero males. Yet I identify as lesbian. Yet I married a hetero cis man. Life, she is not meant for neat labels.

It would seem likely that I would have had at least a couple same-sex fictional crushes over the years, but I can't really think of any --except maybe Dougie Howser's best friend --Vinnie, I think his name was.

I did think of a couple more female crushes though --Jo, from Facts of Life, and also the southern nurse from "Empty Nest".

So I asked the Baconatrix, and she came up with:

Goliath from the Gargoyles cartoon

The Tobey Maguire Spiderman

Hellboy

Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones

She's a member of Team Jacob...

And the unfortunately deceased dude that played Spartacus in the first series.

I didn't crush on ensign Ro, but I did totally ship her with Riker.

Troi was good-looking, but I wasn't much a fan of the character. The actress has her beat on that score.

...

Waaay back when, from Xanth, Nada. I don't recall enough details, but I do remember she had her act together, relatively speaking. And, IIRC, she did not fall in love with the protagonist, which in Xanth terms, is a pretty impressive act of iron will.

There was one episode, where Troi was interesting. That was the episode, where she was terribly annoyed about her mother. "Where are my legs" "Below, mother, like always"* Lovey-Dovey Troi was boring.

AFAIK they had at some poit before shooting exchanged the acresses for Tasha and Troi, and that episode made me wonder, if that had been a good idea. (As much as i usually like tough chick characters, i never really warmed to Tasha either. )

Though dubbing can change a character, and maybe it was just the German voice actress that had a good day. And propably Tasha is better with the original voice.

*From memmory at least 10 years ago, and translated back from German, so don' expect accuarcy.

Ngau's showed me examples of extreme nerd rage where fans went and destroyed their merchandise because they didn't like their favourite character getting paired up with someone they didn't like (or anyone at all). Some of them went out of their way to buy the merchandise just so that they could photograph themselves destroying it. This mostly appears to involve hardcore anime fans. Otakus can be intense.

A manga I read a lot called My Father the Otaku had people doing that to their copies of his work when it turned out that one of the female love interests was already married to someone else. The author responded by having the characters make fun of people who do that in a later chapter of the manga.

Am I reading too much into it when I feel like there's a creepy possessive undertone of "that filthy whore betrayed me!" to that level of nerd rage?

Depends on who you're talking about. I'm sure that for a few nerd ragers out there, you might be reading to little into it.

Very much this. I still find girls wearing headbands very attractive.

Now, wait. No, she did. But she acted grown-up about not getting her way.
