Ever have that thing you don't get, and then you do?

Was listening to Me and Mia by Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, rockin' out, singing along, and suddenly it smacked me in the face that the song is about eating disorders. Color me shocked.

Any good ones?

Shouldn't this be in the "songs about strange subjects" thread?

Or at any rate, I posted a whole list of songs that hit me in just that way there...

I'm keepin' it general, kit.

Here's another one: xkcd made me see the arrow in the FedEx logo. Now I can't unsee it.

My husband mentioned that the lyrics in Peg 'O My Heart by Dropkick Murpheys sound like Peggle my heart. I hear it every time now.

My first read of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

My second read of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

My third ... Well you get the idea. Every time I've read that book I pick up on some small detail I'd somehow missed before.

Same as above, only with re-reading of the Dresden Files books. It's amazing what tiny little details you pick up on...

Spoilers:

Quote:
For instance, going into the final battle of Changes, Lea gives new 'costumes' to Harry and Susan for them to fight in. Harry ends up wearing something close to a conquistador's outfit. Susan, on the other hand, is wearing an outfit appropriate for a... sacrifice.

In the books, Harry teaches Molly shielding by using snowballs. He comments he learned by shielding against baseballs. In a talk with Anastasia a book or so later, she notes that she was taught by having rocks thrown at her. In Ghost Story,
Quote:
Leanansidhe is teaching Molly shielding by chucking ice balls at her.

Also in Changes,
Quote:
When the entire group is in the church right before the big battle, Murphy and Thomas are both playing a game of chess. What move does Murphy make right before the group leaves? She moves a knight into a large group of enemy pieces. What happens during the final showdown? Murphy is knighted by an Archangel and charges into a massive group of enemy forces to help Harry save his daughter.

I went shopping with my wife and she bought a tea infuser shaped like a dinosaur. It took me most of the day to realise that it was a Tea-Rex.

Another one. In the TV show The Boondocks (based off a comic I think), there is a character named Ed Wuncler (pronounced Once-Ler) who is a businessman that owns pretty much everything in the town the characters live in. In the Doctor Seuss story The Lorax, a book about rampant consumerism, the character responsible for the plight that befalls the books is named Once-Ler.

But did you also notice that Ed Wuncler III and his friend Gin Rummy are parodies of George W. Bush and Donald Rumsfield, respectively?

I was walking down the street a few years ago, thinking about something else entirely, when it finally hit me where Boris Badenov came from.

My girlfriend was explaining to me that she wanted to get one of those teapots 'with the space underneath where you can put the miniature candle things to keep it warm - what do you call those candles in English?'

And in a flash, the word 'tealight' suddenly made sense to me.
