All the old games.

Postby Steave » Thu Jul 21, 2011 1:58 am

I'm sure we used to play more than the three or four games we seem to be playing these days.

This a thread to talk nostalgically about games past or maybe suggest a new game we might like to play.

The only game a can remember had four letter words, no not that type, and you had to make a new word by changing one letter.

That was one I was introduced to by reading of Lewis Carroll - he termed them syzygy; you could use words of any length, though the longer it was the less likely it was possible to do.

"Word Ladders" is what they're commonly called today.

It's been a long, long time since we've had a round of LobsterSQUASH...

I was just thinking that as I opened this thread... that, or I'm With Stupid.

I miss Random Silliness most of all. I know those threads can be spammy and boring a lot of the time, but I feel that WGARS just isn't WGARS without it. (Hint hint, if any mods are reading =)

I was actually thinking the same thing the other day.

I wouldn't mind another round of Eat Poop You Cat either.

Well, it'd be a shame to let a good zombie thread go to waste. What other games do you miss?

Battle Threads are cool, but I have to be in the right mood for one. (I would classify the "Incoming!" thread as a battle thread.)

TNA loved Brinkmanship/Counter-Culture. We haven't had a round of that in a couple of Ages.

Movie quotes is a fun game so long as the scorekeeper has a lot of time. (Also it's spin off-- Song Quotes)

There are probably more, but I can't think of any.

I honestly didn't think that Incoming! would make it past the first page, and I certainly didn't have anything but random silliness in mind when I created it. But now it seems like it might be developing its own plot, though I use that term rather loosely.

It has been a while since we've done a Werewolves style game, though those are mostly found down in FRPG. If anyone wants to host another one, I'd be all for it.

That's basically what a battle thread is-- Random Silliness with a plot. My favorite battle thread ever was called something like "The Non-Fanficcy Sluggite Story to End All Sluggite Stories"

An old mod, Kullervo, used to send all battle threads to FRPG. No exceptions. But the threads usually died there soon after. Finally, the sluggites rebelled and, like, threw food at him or something. Good times ;-).

Incoming! Did for a moment look like it was shaping into a new type of game where you solved a problem only to have the solution be one a new problem for the next poster to solve. It is now a Battle thread.

Come to think of it, Incoming! started off like a game of Brinkmanship/Counter-Culture. It didn't hit me until just now.
