[Shameless Plug] #sluggysquad IRC channel

Postby Thorog the Slasher » Sun Sep 03, 2006 6:28 am

Psst! Wile E! You can bump this to IT now!

Some of you may remember the channel #sluggysquad when it started. Some of you are stalwart members already. Some of you haven't heard of it at all. Well, we're on an advertising drive to get new blood into the room, so now's your chance to hop on board.

Who're you?
We're mostly members (or ex-members, although you never really leave .net) of these here forums who decided a few years ago that we should set up a chat room in AIM so we could talk about the comic and stuff. This later branched into an IRC chatroom, which slowly evolved into the creature it is today. Some of us are old hands whose names you might recognise from times long ago, some of us are still current posters in .net, and some of us have come from other places.

What's your relationship with Sluggy.net then?
Except for the occasional interaction (like the Def. Nif. chats with Pete we had a few years ago), we're generally very independent. However we're always ready to help out with any possible combined projects, and we're hoping to become more of a household name around .net.

So do you spend all your time talking about Sluggy?
Hardly. Like any fan channel, we talk about anything. We also have "side" chatrooms for talking about tech stuff, games, crafts, and the like, as not everyone likes talk about the latest distro of Ubuntu filling up their chat window.

Where can I find you?
Check out the instructions on the front page of our website, or a more verbose version on our wiki.

I joined but there was no one active! What gives?
We have our quiet periods just like everyone else. There's little we can do since at, say, 3am Eastern time, most of our chatters are asleep. The best hours to catch us are generally around 7pm Eastern, when there are lots of people active.

Who's in charge? Who do I go to for more information?
Harena is our dual-function admin/camp mother - she makes sure things run smoothly and everything is shiny. I'm the guy charged with PR on Sluggy.net, so if you have any queries about 'squad, please feel free to send me a PM or contact me - all details on my profile.

Thank you for your time, and we hope to catch you soon.

Considering I've been huge into IRC since March in another community... I just might stop by. MIGHT, now, don't get all excited.

Yeah... by "might" I meant I'd be hopping in. I was in right after I posted that, headed there briefly right now.

Hmm, I used to pop in to #sluggysquad occasionally. It was never very active when I showed up though. 7 p.m eastern time you say? I'll have to try that.

I poke my head in ocasionally, and shall continue to do just that. I believe last time I was there it was a day consisting of a birthday and possibly trout-slapping of sorts.

I'm pretty sure I just used Dodger77, or possibly just Dodger. I think they ask that if you have a sluggy.net account you use that as your nick don't they?

Anyway, it's been quite a while since I logged into squad though.

'kay. don't recognize that name but it's highly likely that you were popping on back before SluggySquad became a 24/7 thing for me (*gasp* you mean there was a Time Before?? :kzk: )

Hope to see you this time around! ^_^

I'm there all the time! Only I am under a stealthy nickname that isn't Kitten.

But YOU knew that! You did!
