With nothing much better to do, folks turn in. And the world turns on. Next thing everyone knows, the sky to the east lightens; then a star a trivial handful of millions of miles away comes into view to the tune of various birds, animals, and people starting their day. So far, everything seems peaceful enough.

Alejandra rises and wanders downstairs. If anyone else is there, she'll stay and talk. If not, she'll take one of the thrill-seekers' canoes out - hopefully the noise level will be more conducive to meeting that talking bat again.

Acorn yawns and stretches his wings. First order of the day is breakfast; and there should be enough insect life over the lake for a decent meal. To that end, therefore, he drops from his beam and flies out.

Anyone looking to differentiate him from any other bats out at this unlikely hour would most likely consider the lightweight armoured vest a bit of a hint.

Alejandra heads out into the lake, and fairly soon spots a raptor of some kind orbiting over the water. Idly curious, she gets closer and sees that it's obviously eying a bat hunting down below it...

"Watch out," she calls out. If it's the talking bat, it'll understand her. If not, she doesn't really care.

Acorn looks around, wondering whether the lady in the boat is talking to him or not, but sees no-one in any sort of trouble. So he looks up - and immediately activates his armour spell, as the best non-confrontational way he knows to deal with a raptor.

He swoops after a last dragonfly, and then lands neatly on the bow of the canoe - which he presumes is what one calls the end that the nice lady is facing towards.

"Thanks." he says. "You were the lady on the jetski yesterday, right?"

"Yes," she says. "Did the mage-killer try anything?"

"Well, we went to see - me and Jane and Zee. Jane's a dragon and I think Zee is some sort of mage, and there was another lady there who could translate. The mage killer was kind of scary singing, but he did talk a bit at first, and he and Jane got into a fight after Jane talked his language and Zee ran away - I can't blame her, he had some way of making magic stop working - and Jane surrendered and then the mage killer spared her life and ran away and Jane went off that way and Zee said she'd hide in the town." Acorn takes a deep breath. "Did I ask you yesterday if you'd ever met a talking mouse? Probably with his own transport?"

Les made it back to the doctor's office with little trouble and slept for the rest of the night. Once morning comes, he's up and probably feeling just as sore as he did yesterday. He'll do the morning routine that a certain amount of civilization allows and get his armor back on. If Kilmeyer is awake..."Feeling better?"

"I have not seen a talking mouse. Why do you want him?"

She paddles smoothly over the lake.

"Because he's missing." replies Acorn, briefly. "You see, there's this inventor - he made this thing that he shot Geegaw with, and me, and it seemed to have sent us both to different alternate worlds. I got back... and he hasn't, yet, so now I'm looking for him." Acorn sighs. "The only problem is, a world is a big place to search, and I'm not even sure I've go the right one, but it seems that this one has a lot of dimensional travellers, so maybe I'll be able to find some rumour of him somewhere to track down."

"I hope so." says Acorn, quietly. "Finding him is a kind of a hit-and-miss affair, but this world connects to so many others that I'm hoping to find some hint - a rumour, maybe, or some way to track him down other than just throwing myself into random alternate universes and hoping."

After a moment, he added "Are you by any chance looking for something?"

"Unless you know of a way to clear all the vampires out of Mexico," Alejandra says bitterly.

"No, I'm more NOT looking for something."

"A whooooole lot of garlic powder and a cropduster airplane?" suggests Acorn. "You'd have to have a safe nighttime retreat, of course. Or filling up all the lakes and rivers with holy water, perhaps?"
