He neglected to tell anyone because the illusion he cast was visible only to the prisoner; the prisoner's own illusion abilities were presumably what made it visible to everyone else. From this act of the prisoner's, sprang much strife among the group.

At this point, I did start considering an alternate character idea; a knight with the magical abilities of a brick but a lot of combat ability and a very old-fashioned chivalric code of honour.
However, Sparrow was resurrected before I'd written anything down or asked Inspy about it, so that was that.
