I was asked today why I get the piercings and tattoos. Each piercing is a change in myself, a character flaw that I have overcome and left behind with the piercing as physical proof to remind me of this. Each tattoo is representative of something meaningful in my life. The first was my love of music/relationships I've had up until my husband. The second is my husband's depiction of my heart, scars and all. They tell the story of who I am and who I've been. When people say they got theirs because "it feels good," "I like the pain," or "it's different/cool" I can't help but get annoyed that they are so fickle about something that's meant to be there for the rest of your life. I know people are free to do what they want with their own bodies no matter the reason, but that doesn't make it any less irritating when they assume I did it for the same reasons. My hair color is my only impulse and even that is structured and planned out beforehand.
