Dungeon Crawl: Sandwich, anyone?

Kinzie gets her matchlock ready.

Cloverleaf has no problems opening the door (it opens towards him, and isn't latched). Behind it there is what seems to be a much larger room full of...stuff (a quick glance reveals more of the barrels). There are two men in there, both of whom looked shocked when they see Cloverleaf, then with a curse one of them grabs a sword and charges. The other runs for a ladder leading up.

Kinzie makes a snap decision, and opts for shooting the runner. Well, climber. Whatever.

Cloverleaf points his staff at the trapdoor at the top of the ladder, and launches a quick spell - "Lock tight!"

Then he dives back and to the left, letting Teddy pass.

Teddy charges through yelling in troll. He plans on poking the sword man with his club rather than swinging. Unless, the ceilings permit a good swing.

Cloverleaf casts his spell and then gets out of the way. Once aside, it occurs to him to wonder if he was quite in range...manipulating doors isn't something one usually does from a long way away. Well, he'll find out.

With Cloverleaf out of her way, Kinzie aims and pulls the trigger; rather to her satisfaction, the pistol flashes and bucks in her hand the way it's supposed to when it shoots. But before she can figure out whether or not she hit anything, she also has to get out of the way; stepping to the side to let Teddy make his way through the door. All of this takes time; and so as Teddy was making his way into the room, he is met at the doorway by the swordsman. A rather constrained place for a troll to be fighting, he finds.

Teddy, then, is the only one who can see that the fleeing man does not seem to be shot; but he also doesn't seem to be able to lift the trap. He starts banging on it, calling for help. The swordsman? He and Teddy largely fight to a standstill; Teddy picks up a few scratches, but that's about it. Cloverleaf and Kinzie can...sort of see the man Teddy is fighting; the fellow on the ladder is out of their view.

Kinzie is faced with a choice as the next round gets ready to start; how deliberate she plans to be about reloading. Matchlocks are a bit tricky, what with the already burning piece of match and all; she can safely (well, as safely as may be) reload it slowly, or try to rush the job. The former will see her shooting rather late next round; the latter might get her ready by the beginning, but also risks awkward mistakes.

Cloverleaf briefly wonders about his spell; but whether it took or not, he's in no position to try again now, as Teddy is blocking the doorway. Since he can't do anything about it, therefore, he's not going to worry about it.

Now, if he can just distract the swordsman...

Cloverleaf carefully studies the half a helmet and occasional elbow that he can see of the man fighting Teddy, and casts another spell. Aiming very carefully at the half-helmet (he does not want this to hit Teddy) he calls out "Oh-go-away!"

Teddy tries to push the man back out of the doorway so that his companions can get into the room.

Kinzie reloads carefully. Teddy needs time to clear the shot anyway. That guy on the ladder really needs to stop banging for help.

Cloverleaf casts his spell, and discovers that the man is actually tougher than Cloverleaf in some important respect. He does not run; rather he starts doing his best to push Teddy aside (or back) so he can kill Cloverleaf.

This makes the next bit of melee a trifle one sided, but not conclusive. Teddy succeeds in hurting the man, but does not shove him back. If anything, he's pushed back half a step himself.

Kinzie finishes reloading, but never gets to make the shot she was looking for. She does have a clear line of sight on the swordsman now (so does Cloverleaf, who is almost in reach of his sword); but the man on the ladder is now out of her view entirely.

Now that his opponent is distracted by whatever Cloverleaf has done, Teddy attempt to take advantage and mess the swordsman up with his club.

Cloverleaf dodges around behind Teddy, keeping the troll between him and the swordsman. Should the swordsman manage to get around Teddy, Cloverleaf will run around Teddy in the opposite direction.

Until such time as the swordsman should manage to push past Teddy, however, Cloverleaf will make faces at him over Teddy's shoulder, trying to distract him further.

Kinzie, somewhat annoyed, shoots the swordsman.

The swordsman can't get any more distracted; he's pretty much berserk.

Kinzie aims and shoots; and her aim and timing were both spot on. She hits the sword swinging fellow, and then he obligingly dies.

This leaves Teddy at somewhat loose ends.

Teddy takes the chance to charge into the room and look for the other guy. He'd been distracted, after all and wasn't sure where he'd gone.

"Weren't there two of them?"
