Dungeon Crawl: Sandwich, anyone?

Indeed there were two of them. Teddy enters the larger room in time to see the second of them pop the trap door open with one of his blows, and after the briefest of hesitations scamper up out of sight.

Cloverleaf is aware that his spell should be wearing off pretty soon...he's not sure just when, though. When he glances through the door, 'now' seems a good guess.

The three of them are now in the cellar (if they wish to be). There's a ladder up, with the trap door closing on it. The man on the ladder is gone, though in retrospect he did look familiar to Teddy from somewhere.

While glancing around, it occurs to Kinzie that a fair amount of the stuff down here would never fit through that trap door.

Kinzie takes a moment to assess whether the stuff would fit through the door they just entered by, or if she needs to search around for a secret freight entrance.

Probably another larger door; there are things down here that almost certainly would not have fit through the tunnel. Oddly enough, from this side it looks like the door she came through would be very hard to spot when closed.

Cloverleaf looks at the barrels, looking for any that seem to have come from the abbot's cellar. A nasty suspicion is starting to form in his mind.

Cloverleaf can easily see a dozen of the monastery's wine barrels from where he's standing.

Cloverleaf relaxes at the sight of the monastery barrels. For a moment, he'd been worried, but it looks like his fears were groundless.

"It seems we've found the thieves." he says, and heads up the ladder to see what is to be seen.

Teddy rests a hand on Clover's shoulder.

"Let me go first."

He heads for the ladder, adding as he climbs.

"Did that guy look familiar to the rest of you?"

Teddy finds the trap overhead hard to move, like someone's bolted it. Or put something heavy on it. Maybe both.

Kinzie will check the dead man for identifying features or conspicuous ornaments.

And, since he is all dead and not mostly dead, she rifles through his pockets for spare change.

"Which guy?" asks Cloverleaf. "I didn't really get a good look at the guy on the ladder, and the sowrdsman - doesn't look familiar."

He stands up on a barrel. so that he can reach his staff up past Teddy and touch the trapdoor with it. "I can unlock it," he says, "but I can't prevent them locking it again. So try to push it open on three. One... two... three!"

At the word 'three', Cloverleaf casts a knock-knock spell on the trapdoor.

And Teddy pushes.

Kinzie finds the mans seal, about a dozen gold in assorted coin (mostly silver), a set of dice (three, for a popular local game), and the usual odds and sods one carries around like a belt knife, a rag, and such like. This fellow also has a short stub of a pen; useful looking, but it's going to be rather hard to trim again.

The trap rises a bit, then something on top shifts and Teddy can get it open. He finds himself facing a couple of men with spears pointed down at him, and slightly further away there's a woman with a crossbow (apparently standing on a table). They are clearly indoors; the ceiling overhead looks like a cheap wood one.

Cloverleaf stands on top of his barrel and idly wonders what Teddy can see up there.

Cloverleaf can see one of the folks with a spear. Looks like an unarmored woman to him.

Teddy drops down the ladder.

"Spears and a crossbow!"
