Wiener Dog (Ridiculous SIMILES)

Postby kitoba » Sat Apr 28, 2012 9:28 pm

First player posts a ridiculous SIMILE.

Second player interprets it, and sets a new one.

EX:

PLAYER 1: He's like a wiener dog at a hot dog roast...

PLAYER 2: ...not sure if he's the guest or the entree!

Got it?

She's like a skunk in a well...

The competition between reasons for disbelief is so fierce.

This is a metaphor game where most people are posting similes...

[OOG] Please note that while all similes ARE metaphors, a simple statement of the unadorned truth is not, even if it has the same form as a metaphor... :torg:

Okay, fine. Even though I was using this thread as a metaphor for whatever it was we were talking about...

Odd. That article disagrees with every other source I've read on the subject, which states that although both metaphor and simile are types of analogy, they are distinct from each other. A quick search suggests that is also the position of the definitions in Merriam-webster and Chambers' Dictionaries, and of the Wikipedia article on the subject.

Yes, that might matter had this thread ever incorrectly referenced "metaphors" but since it is now and has always been correctly about SIMILES there is nothing to see here. Move along citizen! :kzk:

All useful properties of insulation and containment are nullified by immersion in electrified water.
