The four of them start back down the tunnel. It's a fairly quiet trip so far as Brother Forge is concerned. He studies everything as they walk, and when they get to the other side stares at the writing on the door for a moment. Then he turns to Kinzie and says "That light. Good idea. Needs a bit of work." Then he turns back to look at the door. "You say the other side is hard to see?"

"Should be," Kinzie says. She tries not to sound grumpy about the backhanded compliment. "We never actually closed it to check, but in theory..." She trails off, shrugging.

He nods. "They might not have known it was there." He turns back to the writing on the door and says "They are accused of cheating...the sort of people who would do all of this" he indicates the tunnel "out of spite."

"Hired someone to do the digging and then welshed? Huh."

"So you think the real culprits are further down?"

Brother Forge shrugs. "We would have to question the pawnbroker and shopkeeper to find out who is responsible for what. For all I know they wanted the wine stolen."

After a second he adds "Though the real culprits may be much further down."

"The Abbot, a dozen monks, and the Mayor should be reaching the store in a few minutes." points out Cloverleaf. "They'll have taken a less direct route, so they won't have got there just yet. I think they may find it useful to know about this. There's two ways to talk to them - either we run back down the tunnel and catch up on the surface, or we go through the cellar and meet them up top."

He looks at the others. "I'm in favour of going through the cellar, myself. What do you think?"

"Be easier to meet up after they start confronting. That way the cellar won't be as guarded. I'd rather not be hit by a crossbow bolt."

Kinzie muses. "Didn't I hear them putting something heavy over the door?"

"If we wait for the confrontation upstairs to draw them away, we could smash through the loading doors." suggests Cloverleaf. "They're locked, but not likely to have something heavy on top just yet."

The dwarf considers the three adventurers for a moment. "They might have run off. Ahead of the law, you see."

"They may have..." murmurs Cloverleaf, placing his ear to the door, "...if they knew they were breaking the law. If the tunnel here was put in without their knowledge, then they may believe that the law would take their side; they may have forted up and sent to the sheriff's office for help."

Cloverleaf listens closely, trying to determine if he can hear anyone moving about in the cellar.

Concluding that if he can't hear anyone, then there must be no-one in there, Cloverleaf opens the door and walks straight into the cellar.
