Got a hold of a copy of this game, and let me tell you I'm having "fun". Anyone out there having "fun" too?

Considering the topic, by "fun" do you mean "losing a lot"?

It being Dwarf Fortress, 'losing is fun!'

Aside from the interface being a usability nightmare, Dwarf Fortress is actually a ridiculously detailed and fun game. Honestly, the only problem I always had with it was trying to find a site that had both magma, iron, and flux for making a steel industry.

For added enjoyment though, there are also mods that add a great deal of other crafts/items, plus the creator of the game is constantly adding new things as well.

Hurray for tantrum spirals and the homicidal axedwarf that caused mine.

Yes. It's called ASCII art. It used to be a thing.

Anyone else currently playing this game right now? I might be interested in a game of Succession.

Trust me, you don't want to play a Succession game with me. I have this tendency to destroy fortresses, usually with a single lever in case of emergencies. If I can't have the fortress, they can't have it either!

I love following threads on the game, and reading Let's Plays but I cannot get into the game. It has a whole bunch of what makes games really fun for me, but the learning curve is so steep.

Check out this Quickstart Guide. After a while of trying to figure it out for myself and failing miserably, I went online to seek help. That guide got my first actual base up and running in only an hour. Once you figure out how to do that, you're free to learn how to do everything else at your own leisure.

Also the Lazy Newb pack includes the option to replace the ASCI gfx with tilesets, which makes it rock even more!
