Prometheus [Spoilers!]

Postby Ruan » Sat Jun 09, 2012 12:57 am

Sooo...

Prometheus was awesome. If you ever liked the Alien series, it's pretty much a must see. I apologize in advance if you end up like us and buying the entire Alien series afterwards.

I liked Alien: Resurrection. Didn't care for the other Alien movies. Does that mean I'll like it?

Haven't seen Prometheus yet, but me and my friend watched Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 yesterday and this morning. Watching Resurrection soon, before we see Prometheus. The first wasn't bad, but a little too old.. The second one was pretty good! Third was visually better, but had some bad writing and acting..

Is it directly related to the Alien franchise, or just set in the same universe, but with little connection?

It is the same universe.

For a more spoilery answer, if you don't mind it:

The movie delves into the Engineers - the alien race of the Space Jockey (aka, the pilot of the ship they were going to salvage in Alien). This is no, ohh, that looks a little similar, it is the exact same ship type and alien. As for the Alien xenomorphs themselves... I say nothing!

Prometheus is very much horror/thriller, rather than action, but the horror isn't the standard cheap BOO horror that you get most of the time. Rather, there's a lot more 'oh, this is NOT going to end well' and cringing back in your seat in anticipation.

I really don't see that age enters into it. It's a great film, plain and simple.

Aliens is one of the best sequels ever made, partly because it doesn't try to recreate its predecessor but forges its own path, switching from tense, claustrophobic survival horror to action/horror while expanding on the setting of the first film.

Alien 3 is a solid offering, but really suffers from comparison to its much better predecessors.

Alien Resurrection is a weak but enjoyable film until its third act, where it goes completely nuts and becomes downright hilarious.

But I'm a young man of the CGi generation, so the shady special effects, slow pace, lack of music and horrible tech design just make it less enjoyable. :torg:

Not saying it's bad, not even close, just that Sci Fi films don't age that well.

And Ruan; I'll skip on the spoilers! :)

A wise decision. You'll enjoy it more that way.

Just got back from the theatre. Kickass.

I like how she decides to take the ship back to their home world in the end, though I'd have done it for far different reasons.

Did we even see the same film? I couldn't decide if it was a horror film which compromised to be sci fi or a sci fi film which compromised to be horror. Either way it suffered badly because of it. It was visually wonderful and the acting was quite good but the story and script were poor to dreadful.

I can sum up my dislike of this film with a simple spoilery statement.

I got the impression that she was going back to deploy the weapons against the Creators.

People seem to either love or hate Prometheus. I skipped out on it because I was feeling too tired, but Ngau and his friends were severely disappointed. They were impressed by the visuals, but hated the story and the characters. Essentially, they summed it up by saying that everything that happens in the story, happens because the characters were blithering idiots.

The Idiot Ball in Prometheus is more like an Idiot Sledgehammer.

There are some situations where it would be better to run at an angle as opposed to perpendicular but [Spoilers] as she was able to fall over, look up, then roll out of the way, this was not one of those situations.
